International Show Jumper John Ledingham
presents Coaching Convention in Lancashire. -
Irish International show jumper John Ledingham will present The British Horse Society Coaching Convention at Myerscough College in Lancashire on 15 May 2008.
This is an exceptional opportunity to see a world-class trainer in action as he works with some of the regions top riders to demonstrate the horse and rider credentials needed to achieve successful course jumping, riders including Andrew Mizon, Julie Andrews, Nicky Jennings, Phillipa Mckeever and Eve Staveley. -
John will be discussing his extensive experience as one of Ireland's most well respected show jumpers, and with numerous successes, such as back-to-back Hickstead Derby wins in 1994 and 1995, this is an exceptional opportunity to see a master at work. John competed on his first Nations Cup team at Lucerne, Switzerland, in 1980, having joined the Irish Army Equitation School in 1978. He won the Puissance in RDS, Dublin on four occasions between 1986 and 1990, including new Irish Record 7' 5". He has represented Ireland on 63 Nations Cup teams. He is a five time winner of the Aga Khan trophy at Dublin. A member of multiple European Championship teams, John has represented Ireland at World Championships in Aachen 1986, The Hague 1994 and in Rome in 1998. -
John jumped on the Irish Team with Kilcoltrim at the Olympic Games in Seoul in 1988. He has been National Champion on two occasions. He has been awarded a gold FEI badge. John was second-in-command and Chief Instructor of the Irish Army Equitation School until his retirement in March 2002. -
In 2002 John took on the chairmanship of coaching for the Irish Federation. The coaching programme has been developed by Irish tutors and adopted by the FEI to use in its development programme around the world. He also took on the High Performance Chairmanship in 2003 working with the three disciplines Dressage, Showjumping and Eventing up to the Olympic Games in Athens 2004 where he was team manager of the Irish Equestrian Team. -
Nial Quirke, a grand prix dressage rider who primarily coaches flatwork and dressage to show jumpers, will accompany John on both days. Working together they will assess schooling and discipline between fences and suggest long term development programmes to meet the needs and requirements of each horse and rider combination. -
