The Equine Industry Welfare Guideline Compendium published in 2002 states: "No aspect of horse ownership is more important than ensuring the horses' health and welfare. Owners and keepers of horses have a moral and legal responsibility to care for them to ensure their physical and mental well being." In the light of the Amersham Horses in Buckinghamshire as reported in the news on the 9th of January 2008, current legislation for the protection of equines is inadequate. We the undersigned petition Lord Rooker - Minster of State for Animal Welfare to implement the following: Traders and Dealers of Horses, Ponies, Donkeys and Mules be regulated and required by law to be licensed in the UK. |
