| World Horse Welfare launches NVQ courses NVQ Students If you'd like to expand your equine management knowledge and skills, and gain a nationally recognised qualification, then World Horse Welfare's NVQ courses are just for you. From September, we'll be holding Horse Care Courses at NVQ levels one and two at our Norfolk rehabilitation centre, Hall Farm. The courses are held in association with Otley College, and formal, taught sessions will run until July 2009, with ongoing practical assessments. |  |
Both courses are open to anyone aged 16 or over - with no upper age limit!
NVQ Level One Horse Care
This course will take place on Saturdays, from 1.30pm-4.30pm, and is ideal for anyone with an interest in horses. People with little or no previous experience are particularly welcome.
Subjects covered will include:
- Feeding and watering
- Grooming
- Mucking out
- Washing horses
- Rugs and rugging
- Colours and markings
- Tacking up and untacking
- Care of the stabled horse
- Care of tack and equipment
- Catching and turning out
- Yard maintenance
- Health and safety
- Leading and standing horses up for inspection
- Building and maintaining good working relationships
NVQ Level Two Horse Care
This course will take place on Saturday mornings from 9am-12pm, and is suitable for anyone who wishes to further their existing knowledge and skills. Preference will be given to those who already hold NVQ Level One or BHS Stage One, and who have experience of working with, or caring for, horses.
Subjects covered will include:
- Lungeing
- Handling horses
- Fitting tack
- Pasture management
- Preparing stables for use
- Feeding and watering
- Loading and unloading
- Cleaning and grooming
- Stable and yard maintenance
- Care of the grass-kept horse
- Monitoring health and wellbeing
- Post-exercise care
- Health and safety
- Plaiting and trimming
- Fitting and removing horse clothing, such as bandages
- Building and maintaining effective relationships
