| Two day British Riding Clubs Festival of the Hunter proves resounding success The 2008 Festival of the Hunter sponsored by Kbis Equestrian insurance kicked off bright and early on Saturday 31 May in glorious sunshine. The new two day format proved a resounding success for the Festival which was held at Washbrook Farm, Aston-le-Walls near Daventry, Northants. |  |
Team honours were taken by the High Wycombe RC team comprising Laura Salisbury, Port Fontaine; Lucy Chappell, Super Starlet; Jane Adderley, Harbridge Budapest; and Rebecca Brown, Bazaars Amazon. The Four Scores Counting trophy went to Frampton Family RC represented by Sandy Bragg, Lady's Challenge; Fiona Porter, Unity; Holly Bevan, Dubrovnik; and Holly Bragg, Bluebell.
The Senior Open individual title was won by Richard Jones and What a Prize, who are members of Radnorshire RC. The team champions were Abinger Forest, who were also awarded the Four Scores Counting trophy. The team comprised Benedicte Barford, Anna Curtis; Rebecca Harvie, Stormy Hill Road; Sue Walker, Lowmore Rio; and Jenny Boakes, Just Furgal.
Winner of the Working Hunter Horse Championship was Tracey Anne Light from Berkeley RC with Master of Disguise. The Working Hunter Pony title was awarded to Claire Moreton, riding Forest Breeze, for Evenlode RC. The Working Cob Championship went to Kathleen Botting and Bristol Blue from West Sussex RC.
Mr Paul Scott, judge for the Cob classes, said: "The quality of horses in the cob sections has been outstanding and comparable to horses I have placed in HOYS qualifying shows."
Finn Valley RC took the Heavyweight, Novice Hunter and then Best in Show with Lisa Moulson and Finnegan. The Reserve Champion came from Calderdale Saddle Club, namely Lesley Scutter riding Phoenix Park Two, who had won the Ridden Cob Championship.
The Lightweight title was won by Marjorie Glasgow, riding Rosscarberry's Royal Flush from Evenlode RC. The Middleweight then went to Hawley RC in the form of Chloe Baglin and Millenium Cruiser.
Sunday 1 June saw the Juniors take their turn to ride Cross-Country. The day kicked off with the Junior Novice Cross-Country where the individual title went to Hannah Watson on Nickle and Dime for Renfrewshire RC. The Junior Pairs Cross-Country Championship saw a win for Cropthorne and Evesham Vale's Daisy Wheeler and Abi Stock, riding Max and Shannon.
The Junior Novice winning team were from Cambridgeshire RC and comprised Charlotte Horne, Pinky; Holly Jukes, Rekon; Rachel Dyke, Mirror Man Two; and Tony Chapman, Sportsfield Seafever. Four great rounds also saw the team take the Four Scores Counting title.
The final class of the day was the Junior Open Cross-Country. Individual honours went to Charlotte Clewlow with Fortunes Enigma. Charlotte was also part of the winning team for Nantwich RC who took the Open Team Championship and the Four Scores Counting trophy. Charlotte's fellow team members were Bethany Ford, Brindley Blue Diamond; Harriet Davies, Bertie; and Peter Hatton on Countrywide Dream.
