The Pony Club Tetrathlon Championships

The Pony Club Tetrathlon Championships took place, August 20th-22nd at Hartpury College, Gloucestershire.

Pony Club Tetrathlon incorporates the disciplines of running, cross country riding, shooting and swimming and provides a gateway for young people into Modern Pentathlon. Over 400 Pony Club Members took part at this year's Championships, generously sponsored by Mitsubishi Motors, following qualification at their Area competitions throughout the year.

The highly coveted Open level honours were taken by Lydia Rosling, (Open Girls) from the Quantock Hunt Branch of The Pony Club and Ryan Smith (Open Boys), from the Holcombe Hunt Branch of The Pony Club.

There was a slightly sad ending to the 2010 Championships, as Pony Club Tetrathlon Chairman, Gillie Summers, stepped down after six years.

"There are just so many people I need to thank" said Gillie, who was presented with a fantastic wooden bench with carvings that depicted the elements of Tetrathlon. "I must thank all my Committee, who are also my friends, but mostly all of the volunteers who give their time so freely to make these wonderful Championship happen each year".

Tetrathlon has recently also enjoyed success overseas when 11 Members took part in an International Exchange to the USA, to compete both in teams and individually, against competitors from the U.S.A., Eire, Canada and Australia. Members who took part were: Luke McMullan, Luke Klimacki, Henry James, Ryan Smith, Sophie Tabor, Sarah Mosley, Kate Fowlie, Amelia Jobling, Jake Wood-Gee, Kirsty Liddon and Tracy Kidner. The Members were kindly chaperoned by Dr. And Mrs Allenby.

The Exchange was a great success with the UK boys taking first place in the team competition as well as 1st - 3rd place individually. The UK girls were certainly not far behind, also taking the team honours as well as second and third placing individually.
