Pony Club Winners at Royal Windsor Horse Show
| Pony Club Winners at Royal Windsor Horse Show Visitors to the Royal Windsor Horse Show earlier this month were again treated to a host of Pony Club activities, with three different Pony Club disciplines taking place throughout the show! As always the very popular DAKS International Pony Club Mounted Games took place throughout the week, culminating with the nail biting final on the Sunday. |
There was also an Individual Show Jumping competition, and for the second year running a Tetrathlon competition.
The DAKS International Mounted Games saw teams from England, Northern Ireland, Wales, Republic of Ireland and Scotland battling it out for the title. The Republic of Ireland was finally victorious, in a first time win for them during the 31 years the competition has been running! The team comprising of Isabelle O'Meara (Duhallow Hunt), Niamh Deering (Kildare Hunt), Jessica Frayne (Meath Hunt), Jeremy McKeever (Meath Hunt), Donal Ryan (Meath Hunt) and Rebecca Jackson (Shillelagh), were trained by Chris Ahearne and received their awards from HRH The Duke of Edinburgh, in the Castle Arena. "Going into the final, where double points are awarded, all of the teams were in contention" commented Emma Horton-Barr, Secretary for Pony Club Mounted Games, "but Republic of Ireland held their nerve to clinch the title with 163 points".
Daphne Sleight, previous District Commissioner of the Axe Vale Pony Club Branch for an incredible 30 year term, was the recipient of the ‘Friends of DAKS Salver' for outstanding contribution to a Branch. The award was presented by Mr Paul Dimond, Deputy Chairman of DAKS. Daphne, who was nominated by her Pony Club Area for the award and chosen by The Pony Club Council, is now the Honorary President of the Axe Vale Branch.
Following the success of the inaugural Tetrathlon competition at the show in 2009, Pony Club Tetrathlon was back, and this time with the running, shooting and riding phases all within the castle grounds. The show jumping acted as the final phase making for an exciting end to the competition and Jaimie Paisley, aged 14, from the Eskdale Branch, took the Individual honours riding Emoe Chelsea, on a score of 4797. The South West Team of Kelcey Pillage (Spooners & West Dartmoor Branch) Chris Harris (Fourburrow Hunt Branch) and Anju Gaston (Eggesford Hunt Branch) took the team honours on a combined score of 13855.
32 Pony Club Members from Pony Club Areas eight, 11, 12 and 13 were selected by their Area Representatives to take part in the Individual Show Jumping competition on Sunday, in the Frogmore Arena. First place honours went to Amy Halstead, age 15, from the Garth Hunt Branch of The Pony Club, riding All Rise.
