British Eventing announces the addition of a 7 year old class

British Eventing announces the addition of a 7-year-old class British Eventing is pleased to announce the addition of a 7-year-old class to the Lycetts Young Horse Championships, which will be hosted for the first time at Osberton in Nottinghamshire. This is the second year that the series has been generously supported by Lycetts, the countrywide insurance brokers who specialise in equestrian property and liability, as well as having an esteemed reputation for the insurance of competition horses. This is the first time that a 7 year old Championship has ever been run in Britain and it will feature significantly higher prize money than that offered at the Young Horse Championships in 2009. Director of Lycetts Rural Division, Jonny McIrvine says: "it is exciting to support the 7 year old class at Osberton. We really feel that these championships are beginning to be recognised as a showcase for the best young horses in Britain and we are proud to be associated with them."

The 7 year old championship will be held as a CCI2* competition and hopes to attract the very best horses from Britain and abroad. An alternative to Le Lion, all horses that meet the FEI qualifications for CCI2* are eligible to contest the title in a bid to be named as the best 7 year old in Britain.

In response to demand from competitors, the 6-year-old Championship is also changing. There will be no qualifying classes and so any horse born in 2004 will be able to enter the new CIC1*. At the final at Tweseldown last October, it was noted that many of the top 6 year olds were already contesting Intermediate events and therefore it is hoped that a CIC1* will be a natural crescendo to the conclusion of the eventing season for these stars of the future.

The 4 & 5 year old Championships will remain in the same format as previous years with qualifying events talking place all over the UK and the highest placed horses from each event qualifying for the prestigious final.

These Young Horse Championships combined with the International competition will offer spectators a varied choice of viewing and will give competitors an exciting festival feel. With Breeding still at the heart of the Lycetts British Eventing Young Horse Championships all horses competing in the Championships are required to provide a proven record of breeding. This is the same for in-hand classes that will once again run in 2010.
