Have fun at Burford's favourite charity Horse show

Have fun at Burford's favourite charity Horse show

Equine enthusiasts and animal lovers are invited to The Blue Cross Annual Horse Show, to be held at the charity's equine welfare centre on Shilton Road, Burford on Sunday 26 July from 9.30am.

The event is a favourite occasion on the local equestrian calendar and what's more it's all for a worthy cause, as proceeds from the day go towards caring for the needy horses and ponies in the charity's care.

Kate Gloyn, acting Blue Cross equine centre manager at Burford said: "We hope lots of people will come along to support our traditional country horse show.

Syrup was rehabilitated by the SWHP and then trained
and brought on at The Blue Cross

There are classes for everyone so gather up your family and friends and come and have some fun and help the horses and ponies in our care."

Whether taking part, or just watching the show, horse and pony lovers can enjoy in a wide range of classes to suit all ages and abilities. Rosettes are awarded to eighth place and activities include:

  • a wide choice of ridden and in-hand showing, including mountain and moorland and coloured classes, racehorse to riding horse, working hunter, best grass-kept horse or pony and best turned out.
  • clear round, novice and BSJA jumping classes running in three separate rings throughout the day and the introduction of a brand new show jumping championship with the chance to win the championship trophy at the end of the day.
  • some inspiring novelty classes including fancy dress, family horse and pony and hooves and feet - a fun class for riders of eight years and under in which the pony is ridden round a small course and then the rider completes the same course on foot.
  • a special class for the best Blue Cross horse or pony, which is open to all Blue Cross horses and ponies out on loan or resident at one of the charity's centres.
  • a car boot sale of both equestrian and non-equestrian items and a variety of refreshments.

The Blue Cross does not receive any government funding so it relies on the support of the public to continue its vital work. Money raised on the day will go towards helping animals like Syrup, one of a group of neglected ponies rescued by The Blue Cross associate charity the Society for the Welfare of Horses and Ponies (SWHP).

Syrup was rehabilitated by the SWHP and then trained and brought on at The Blue Cross, before being successfully rehomed in March this year. He has proved to be a fantastic all-rounder and has formed a strong partnership with his six-year-old jockey in his new loan home, with high hopes for success in future competitions and Pony Club.
