Carl Hester and Emma Hindle Enjoy Good Form

Carl Hester and Emma Hindle Enjoy Good Form

Carl Hester and Liebling II continued their run of good form in the CDIO3* at Saumur posting 69.79% in the Special to finish 4th and 73.90% (5th) in the Freestyle, the pair's highest score to date. Run on the championship formula where competitors ride a Grand Prix, Grand Prix Special and a Grand Prix Freestyle test all three sections were won by rising German talent Mathias Alexander Rath and Sterntaler-Unicef.

Both Hester and Hindle had a battle on their hands in the Big Tour and Small Tour classes. Just pipped into 2nd by Rath in the Grand Prix Emma Hindle and Olympic partner Lancet turned the tables in the Special to come out on top with 71.29%.

Hindle's second ride at Big Tour, the 12 year old bay stallion Diamond Hit improved on a below par Grand Prix to stand 3rd in the Freestyle on 69.25%.

Two other Brits finished in the top five of the special; Fiona Bigwood on new ride Wie Atlantico (67.29%) and former senior team selector Judy Harvey with Fitzcerraldo (66.83%).

Hester also came up trumps with the nine year old dark bay stallion T.Movistar. The combination took 2nd in the Inter 1 class (68.89%) behind Spanish Olympian Beatriz Ferrer Salat and Delgado but came back to win the Inter 1 Freestyle with an emphatic 77.55% and record another personal best. Emma Hindle wasn't far behind on her small tour ride Chequille, improving on a 4th in the Inter 1 to stand joint 2nd in the freestyle with Sander Marijnissen on 74.55%.

Team Captain Richard Davison commented; "Both Carl and Emma have had to battle for their successes but they've really stepped up to the pressure and its paid off, it's a great end to the show. Carl and Liebling also performed well and its all more mileage for them as a relatively new combination."

Steph Croxford and Mr President unfortunately had to retire from the CDIO Grand Prix Special. Davison explained; "The horse spooked and slipped on the tarmac between the warm up and the main arena. They started their test but Steph pulled up after the first few strides of extended trot when he didn't feel quite right. We're in the process of screening and diagnosis and after rest he is improving."
