PLEASE HELP THE CARTWHEEL HORSES OF CANAKKALE TURKEY...

PLEASE HELP THE CARTWHEEL HORSES OF CANAKKALE-TURKEY...

Horses used by the Romanis (aka Turkish Gypsies) in the city for cartwheel freight transportation-and mostly suffer during their short lives because of abuse and starvation-are now at the brink of total extinction.  The mayor of Canakkale Ulgur Gokhan has ordered that the 80 or more of such horses should be expropriated from their current Romani owners and left to the wilderness without any medical aid, food or water.

The horses will either end up at an illegal slaughterhouse or an immature death from starvation and illnesses.  Mayor Gokhan on the other hand may collect the harvest in the form of votes in the upcoming local elections coming from:

  • Romani families in exchange of TL 5,000 paid per horse,
  • and the public in general for getting rid of slow and dangerous horse drawn cartwheels spoiling the city traffic.

BUT NOT A SINGLE PERSON OR GOVERNMENTAL AUTHORITY CARES FOR THE HORSES...

The municipality declines the fact that the horses are being left to the wilderness.  However they also can not answer and document where they are right now.

The photographs are from a series showing sick and wounded horses left to die.

We cry out for help and need your support...
