News from Abroad More than 300 horses evacuated in face of wildfires
County animal shelters and at least one high school have been taking smaller pets to help owners forced to flee their homes.
The three fires have been fanned by strong Santa Ana winds which are pushing the fires toward the coast.
The blazes have burnt some 30 square kilometres of bush in outer Los Angeles and the northern part of San Diego County.
More than 2000 firefighters are working to control the blazes, which have resulted in the evacuation of people from about 3000 homes.
