 Priscilla riding her horse Buster
In Memory of Buster,  remembered by his owner Priscilla.
This photo was taken last summer on the last ride Buster
and I had together, a magic moment. We met when he was
an unruly eleven month old colt and we have been together
for eleven years. Buster is the only horse in over fifty years
of being in the equestrian world who  never ever gave me
any reason to be frightened or cautious when in his
company, yet he would see my husband  out of the stable
with teeth bared. When I cantered through the woods on him
I was on a 17hh cloud. So now it is ended and the happy
memories still the pain. Good night Buster,  sweet dreams.

One of our members  Suzanne Hatcher competing with  her much loved horse Fay

I was 4 years old when I started horse riding at a riding centre in Guildford Surrey my sight was then good. I bought my  first horse Bandit when we moved to East Sussex. I was  then 16 years old and by then was partly sighted. Bandit was a very good horse and we had a great time together, Bandit was so gentle I'm sure she knew I could not see properly. Owing to cancer of the foot Bandit was put down at the age of 19 years and is sadly missed.

I then purchased a New Forest horse Fay who was 4 years old at the time. We struck up a very good partnership which helped out later on when my sight deteriorated. With the help of  friends I have  has won lots of trophies and rosettes and can still compete against able-bodied riders in Walk, Trot, Dressage, Showing, and Gymkhana even though I am  now registered blind and cannot see.

Fay my horse is now 19 years old but I  hope to have many more years of fun with her.

One of our members Bonnie Stears  jumping her much loved
horse Oddyesy - or Oddy to his friends

I Have had Oddysey (Oddy) for nearly 5 years now. I bought him after nearly having my confidence completely destroyed by my previous horse.  We have had our ups and downs as you do in any relationship, but overall he has been such a confidence giver.  Nearly everything that I have asked him to do he has said ‘okay, come on lets go!'  The only issue we have had is with jumping and that was more me than him and is changing.  I have done some things on him that I never thought I would have the courage to do. Every summer we live for the sponsored rides and in the autumn/winter we try and manage to do a couple of hunts.  I get such a thrill because he loves doing it all as much as I do.  Oddy sees me get the trailer ready and can't wait to get on and be off!  If he was a dog he would be bouncing around wagging his tail!  He can be extremely stubborn and cheeky, but I just love him to bits!

Pricilla Bubb one of our members Shetland pony Rocky takes local children for a ride.

Pricilla Bubb one of our member's Shetland pony Rocky,
takes Owen (left) Amberly & Sebastian (right) for a ride.

After falling in love with Rocky (full name Rocky of Crafton)  -  Owen,  Amberly and Sebastion talked their parents in to getting their own Shetland. The children are now the proud owners of Rocky's brother Rolo (of Crafton) who Pricilla will be helping them to train and drive.
In Pricilla's words "Rocky is a multi champion of his breed and also in private driving classes, but at the end of the day, this picture shows what it's really all about....." and we agree!

  VFH Emma Watches Jive Pony
Rosie and Tinker from Jive Pony

I popped along to the International Sheepdog Trials and
country festival in Llandeilo Wales at the weekend (13 Sept 08) and happened across a charming display by Rebecca Townsend and Rosie Howard from
Jive Pony. A combination of riding skills, acrobatics and a beautifully behaved and trained ‘Tinker'  entertained the crowd on a beautiful warm sunny day.

  Cathy Lane & Alfie
Cathy and Alfie

Alfie is a 6 year old gelding (we think he is a welsh section b cross) He came to us in a very poor condition. He had obviously not been cared for, and even his basic needs had clearly not been met. He had a very heavy worm burden. After worming him, we saw evidence of small redworms and tape worms. He also had a chronic chest infection which took 3 months to clear up.

Alfie was also terrified of people, men in particular. Although he has now regained his trust in female humans, the only man he can tolerate is my husband (co-founder of Last Angel Equine Defence, Anthony Lane)

Alfie is now a very happy pony and he is back to full health.
