YOUR HORSE AND YOUR FARRIER

Footcare and farriery are an essential part of the routine care of a horse. Without this regular maintenance, whether shoeing or just trimming, a horse may not be able to lead a healthy life and its welfare may be jeopardised.

Farriers are qualified professionals, regulated in law by the Farriers Registration Council and are expected to abide by a Guide to Professional Conduct covering amongst other matters their responsibilities to their clients. However they cannot provide a good service without their clients assistance.

For example clients have a responsibility to ensure that the shoeing area they provide is safe for horse and farrier.

The FRC has therefore produced a leaflet concerning the principle responsibilities of horse owners and farriers. It is hoped the leaflet will be helpful to everyone involved particularly new owners.

Copies can be downloaded from the FRC website http://www.farrier-reg.gov.uk/  or are available on request from the Councils office (e-mail:frc@farrier-reg.gov.uk or telephone  01733 319911).
