Kent Woman Pleads Guilty to Causing Suffering to Horse
On Friday 13th July 2007 at Sevenoaks Magistrates Court, Ms Tracy Ellis of Borough Green Road, Wrotham, Kent pleaded guilty to causing unecessary suffering to a bay gelding, now in the care of the International League for the Protection of Horses (ILPH).
Ms Ellis, aged 34 was given 80 hours of unpaid community work and ordered to pay £1,500 costs.
On 15th September 2007, ILPH Field Officer Ted Barnes was asked to visit Ms Ellis' premises on Borough Green Road, to assist RSPCA Inspector Nigel Peake. On arrival, they discovered an emaciated 15.2hh bay Thoroughbred gelding called Thomas of approximately 10 to 12 years old. The horse had untreated rainscald across his whole body and untreated sarcoids on its sheath.
The horse was examined on site by an independent veterinary surgeon and was subsequently seized and taken to a safe holding yard until it was fit enough to travel to ILPH Hall Farm in Norfolk at the end of January 2007.
ILPH Field Officer Ted Barnes said:"Ms Ellis pleaded guilty and seems to regret her actions. She has invited both the RSPCA and ILPH back to inspect her remaining 10 horses at any time and I hope to see a great deal of improvement.
"Thomas has continued to make good progress and his future is secure as he was signed over to the ILPH before the case came to court."
