Horses Can Help Strengthen The Economy
An action plan setting out how the horse industry can further strengthen its contribution to Englands and Wales economies was launched at the 2006 National Equine Forum.
The plan supports the strategy for the Horse Industry in England and Wales, published in December 2005, and sets out who is responsible for taking forward the 50 action points.
The Welsh Assembly Government in partnership with DEFRA and the british Horse Industry Confederation worked together to develop the joint strategy to foster a robust and sustainable horse industry.
The action plan will serve as the basis for monitoring progress in the future and it is intended to produce updated reports at regular intervals.
The strategy proposes 50 specific actions to help achieve the following initial broad objectives, to:
- Bring the horse industry together to develop its national, regional and local impact.
- Increase participation in equestrianisum
- Boost the economic performance of the equine businesses
- raise equestrian skills and training standards
- Increase access to off-road riding and carriage driving
- Consider the environmental impact of the horse
- Encourage sporting excellence
- Improve the quality and breeding of horses and ponies
