LAURENS NAMED DISABILITY SPORTS PERSON OF THE YEAR
Paralympic gold medalist Simon Laurens was named the Disability Sports Person of the Year at the Gloucestershire Media Sports Awards, 25 November, 2009.
Laurens was one of 11 winners to be honoured for their services to sport in the county during a presentation dinner at Cheltenham Racecourse. The award was sponsored by Hartpury Sport and presented by Hartpury Principle Malcolm Wharton.
"I was very surprised with the award," said Laurens. "I had no idea I had been put forward but it's fantastic to be recognized, especially on home ground." Laurens has lived in Gloucestershire for over three years now and is eager to raise the profile of the sport. | |
"This award is great for Para dressage and dressage in general. Recognition like this can only help advance awareness and support of dressage."
A successful world class competitor for some time, Simon's recent achievements include a team gold medal at the 2009 Para Dressage European Championships in Norway.
