65cm classes a winner with young show jumpers

65cm classes a winner with young show jumpers

Young show jumpers and their parents have given the thumbs up for the new 65cm Trailblazers classes.

With categories for 12 years and under, plus 16 years and under, the smaller height classes are the latest addition to Trailblazers' national show jumping series sponsored by South Essex Insurance Brokers (SEIB).

Sisters Corinne, aged 11, and Morag Molyneux (9) were among the first to take up the 65cm challenge during the recent Trailblazers show at Osbaldeston, Lancashire.

Corinne rode Boing to win the 65cm class, while Morag put up a good performance on her novice pony, Cuillon.

"The ponies are all-rounders rather than show jumpers," said the girls' mum Liz Molyneux. "Boing is just 12hh and Cuillan is only a four year old, so jumping 65cm was perfect for them to build confidence.
"Having two 65cm classes to jump in, over two different courses, meant we had a good day out. Trailblazers is so friendly and you know you'll get a well-built track to jump."

Nine year old Francesca Carr finished second in the 65cm 12 years and under class riding the 13hh Munchy. "It's the first time she's done Trailblazers and she thoroughly enjoyed it," said Francesca's mum, Janet Carr.

"75cm can be quite big for little children or young ponies, but 65cm over a flowing course that gave them something to think about was ideal. It encouraged them greatly."

Corinne, Morag and Francesca are members of the West Lancs County branch of the Pony Club and regular members of its mounted games team.

"It's lovely for young riders to be able to enjoy all aspects of competition, and the new 65cm Trailblazers classes give them another option," added Janet. "Now Francesca's very excited about the Trailblazers second rounds - children just love qualifying for things!"

Show centres may run the two 65cm classes concurrently or separately, giving competitors aged 12 and under two classes in which to jump. Riders entering 85cm or higher classes are ineligible for either 65cm category, in order to provide the more inexperienced competitors with their own dedicated classes.

Trailblazers junior classes are also available at 75cm, 85cm, 95cm and 1.05m. A double clear round is required to qualify for Trailblazers show jumping second rounds, the route to the 2010 Trailblazers Championships at Stoneleigh on 23-25 July.

Trailblazers also runs senior show jumping at 75cm, 85cm, 95cm and 1.05m plus national dressage and showing series. There are 60 Trailblazers approved show centres nationwide. For more information and a list of participating centres click HERE
