Talented Dani wins Junior European Eventing Silver

Talented Dani wins Junior European Eventing Silver

Talented teenager Dani Evans riding Heather Sheppard's Uchin took an Individual Silver medal this morning at the Junior Eventing European Championships held in Waregem, Belgium (11-14 September).

17 year-old Dani from Pensford, Bristol, competing against 78 other riders from 13 nations produced two faultless rounds in the cross country and show jumping phases to finish on her dressage score of 38.3, retaining the second place that she had held throughout the competition.

Britain also had three other riders in the top 12 with Eliza Sangster in 8th, Amelia King in 10th and Evie Paterson in 12th. The British team finished fourth in the team competition only two points behind the Italian team in third. The team unfortunately dropped from second to third going in to the show jumping following the withdrawal of Camilla Dumas and Action Packed, who sustained a minor injury in the cross country phase.

Dani was thrilled with her Silver medal: "It's absolutely amazing to win a medal. Uchin jumped out of his skin in both of the jumping phases and he didn't put a foot wrong.

"It's so exciting to have a horse like him and I'm very lucky that my grandmother, Heather Sheppard has trusted me with the ride."

Robin Balfour, Chairman of the Junior Selectors, was pleased with how all of the riders performed: "We have got a good set of results from our British riders with four of the squad finishing in the top twelve.

"Coming home with the individual Silver has exceeded all our expectations and it is a great achievement for Dani."

This trip to Belgium has been possible thanks to the unerring support of the UK Sport funded Equestrian World Class Programme, which supports a pathway to success for Eventing, Show Jumping, Dressage and Para-Equestrian Dressage athletes. The aim is to have in place a sustainable system that can deliver more medals on the international stage now and in the future. The Programme has been funded by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, primarily from the National Lottery, via UK Sport since 1998.
