Scotland's Animal Helpline Campaign
| Scotland's Animal Helpline Campaign The Scottish SPCA has launched a striking outdoor media campaign to promote its Animal Helpline number. Running until the end of our Scottish Animal Week, from 7-13 September, the campaign also highlights the abuse and neglect many animals in Scotland continue to suffer. | ![]() |
Chief Executive Stuart Earley said, "Our aim is to further increase our public awareness levels. With an increased media profile and a more memorable Animal Helpline number in 03000 999 999, the calls we receive have leapt dramatically, with 20 percent increases recorded in both 2008 and the first half of this year.
"Yet we know there is a lot more to do, starting with this campaign featuring Annie, who was neglected by her owner and arrived at one of our animal rescue and rehoming centres in a terrible state before being found a loving new home.
"Our campaign stretches throughout Scotland and reaches into communities where cruelty to animals is most prevalent."
A new Animal Helpline centre in Dunfermline, opened in August by the First Minister, is just one example of the Scottish SPCA continuing to invest in its frontline resources.
"Quite simply, our previous Animal Helpline entre in Edinburgh did not have the capacity to meet the demands the public are making of us, so we have moved to premises where we have been able to take on more staff and have the ability to further expand," said Mr Earley.
"While many other charities are cutting back on their core activities, we are investing in our frontline resources, not only by opening a new Animal Helpline centre but also by increasing the number of our Inspectors and Ambulance Drivers across the country. We are also developing our network of animal rescue and rehoming centres, including a new centre in the Aberdeen area."
