The World of Horses Radio Programme

The World of Horses Radio Programme
Voices for Horses is proud of its international links with horse lovers and every now and then comes across an individual who stands out from the crowd by doing something extraordinary in the pursuit of supporting and uniting the equestrian community. BJ Rickard is no exception.

His American radio programme "The World of Horses" covers all equine  topics and introduces us to an inspiring and eclectic  mix of different people, cultures and philosophies  all united by one common passion -  the horse!

Interviews on the programme, are as if you are eavesdropping on friends having a chat. BJ's relaxed approach is a refreshing mix of humour and genuine interest in the people he speaks to. This coupled with excellent factual content delivered with a keen sense of right and wrong,  makes "The World of  Horses" not only unique but important in promoting the care of horses.

Results:
The average life span of a radio show about horses is two to three months. This short-lived time span is generally associated with a lack of depth and content of the show itself. "The World of Horses" with its 9-year history and 474 broadcasts obviously shows its effectiveness and broad appeal. Each show has at least three callers who don't own horses, but want to compliment the show's great sound and format. Along with the show's long-standing history of good solid horse information are these unusual and outstanding statistics:

  • Over 2,500 stolen horses recovered
  • More than 500 stolen trucks recovered
  • 1,500 stolen horse trailers recovered
  • In 9 years of broadcasting, 2 veterinarians prosecuted and imprisoned for crimes against horses and horse owners
Approximately 700 horses' lives saved literally by their owners calling the show for immediate advice and help.
About BJ Rickard
BJ Rickard, besides hosting "The World of Horses," has written several books. BJ has been published in magazines and newspapers across the U.S. He currently has two syndicated monthly columns, one in I.M. Cowgirl Magazine called "Stall 13" and one with the Southwest Horsetrader.

Along with his writing and broadcast duties, BJ spends seven days a week completely immersed in the horse business. This total commitment to horses has given him a vast and unique insight and education into the horse's world, which he passes on to other horse owners. Not only does he educate horse owners through his radio show and writings, BJ also routinely provides the public with information at horse clinics, which have become very popular.BJ unfortunately is extremely tough to contact.

BJ practices what he preaches, he travels over 100 miles everyday going from barn to barn and pasture to pasture working with horses, horse owners and veterinarians. He works long hours, but loves what he does and wouldn't trade his life style for any other way. BJ can be reached by phone or email, but most of the time you will need to leave a message and he will return your call.

Over the years BJ's dedication to horses and what is best for the horse has developed his reputation into being one of the leaders in mental disorders of horses caused by physical or mental abuse. An addition to this part of his work, he helps victims of horse related accidents to overcome their fear as part of their recovery.
