The Laminitis Trust

The Laminitis Trust

Laminitis is a painful condition of the feet not to be ignored. It can become totally debilitating and in some cases  can ultimately result in the death of the horse, pony, donkey or mule.

The actual word laminitis means 'inflammation (itis) of the sensitive laminae (lamin)'. These laminae are the membranes that hold the bone of the foot (pedal bone) in place inside the foot. The laminae bond the hoof wall to the pedal bone, which supports the entire weight of the horse or pony.

If you suspect that your horse has laminitis you should contact your vet immediately as the longer the problem goes untreated, the greater the risk of irreparable damage occurring.
